Weingut Polz

Erich and Walter Polz have made the winery famous far beyond the borders of Austria in recent decades. In 2020, it was time to hand over the scepter to the next generation. Erich Polz Jr. will continue to run our traditional winery: "I am delighted to be able to take on this responsible task. The combination of respect for tradition and the creative possibility let me look confidently into the future." Brother Christoph Polz is still responsible for the cellar and the wines.

At the Kellerstöckl on the Grassnitzberg in southern Styria, you can taste and purchase the entire range of wines and sparkling wines. It embodies characteristics such as openness, competence, tradition, modern architecture and the passion of the Polz family. The Kellerstöckl team is looking forward to your visit! Perfect conclusion after a trip to the South Styrian Wine Route.

The winery The geological nature of the soil, many hours of sunshine and well distributed rainfall are almost ideal conditions for viticulture. But the quality of a wine does not lie solely in the benevolence of nature. It is the experience gained over decades, sustainability in thought and action, and an uncompromising commitment to quality that turn a good harvest into a wine full of character. Thus, for many generations, the name Polz has stood for a terroir that has been carved out almost by hand, making all our passion and attention to detail tangible in the glass. The passion Only those who do good work in their vineyards can produce wines of high quality. Thus, only hand-picked grapes find their way into our cellar. Here, "controlled idleness", i.e. giving each wine its time, is our focus. For local and estate wines, we rely on spontaneous fermentation with yeasts that occur naturally in the vineyard and in the cellar. The most valuable Rieden wines undergo up to one year of aging on the full lees. In order to guarantee our Großer STK Rieden also a constant maturity in the bottle and to increase the accessibility in the first years, we close them again with natural cork since the 2016 vintage. Tastings in the Kellerstöckl We will be happy to welcome you with an aperitif and an introduction to the winery, show you our press house, tank cellar and barrel cellar as part of a "commented cellar tour" and then taste a cross-section of the entire Polz range with a wine expert. Commented cellar tour and tasting available for groups of 4 or more. Please send inquiries by e-mail to kellerstoeckl@polz.co.at or by phone at +43 3453 2301.
