Etappe 01 Weinland Steiermark Radtour Leibnitz - Deutschlandsberg
Right in the middle of likely the most famous wine-growing region in Austria, the Southern Styria Nature Park, the bike tour takes us to the starting point in Leibnitz. At the end of this day's stage we reach Deutschlandsberg, the capital of the Schilcherland region, after whose wine the region is also named.
The Sausal Wine Road at the start and the Schilcher Wine Road at the end of the tour are our companions on this day's stage of the Styrian Wine Country cycling tour. On the left and right side we can always admire the beautifully landscaped vineyards in this journey through the Sulmtal, but also numerous pumpkin seed oil mills, such as the oil mill Hartlieb near Heimschuh, invite you to stop in.
For many centuries, the grapevine has been cultivated on the slopes along the Sausal Wine Road. In addition to the warm winds, the soil in particular represents a positive mood of nature. The shale as a basis gives the wine special depth, longevity and elegant minerality. The knowledge of this extraordinary composition of the soil makes it possible to press regional wines and to sustainably cultivate this cultural landscape characterised by steep vineyards.
